The patch for this nice slideshow was on my "should be done one day"
list for quite some time already, had a brief look at creating the
patch back in September 2013 but didn't really do much. Yesterday
I had a look again (remembered it after I had finished the patch for
Acme's Megademo), spent a few hours and patched most of it except for the
pictures (each picture is one separate crunched executable!). Then
went to the cinema with the better half and watched "The Martian"
which truly is a great and very entertaining movie!
Today I spent some more hours and patched all the picture parts which
really took quite some time as there are a lot of different pictures.
Code in the slideshow is quite OK but a lot of (not so) little problems
had to be fixed, the only real major bugs were blitter bugs. One was a wrong
blitter wait (register a6 was expected to contain the CUSTOM base ($dff000)
but instead a5 contained $dff000 which in turn made the blitter wait not work
correctly and, depending on the value of a6, either accessing totally wrong
memory locations or just waiting forever for the BBUSY bit to be cleared.
The other major bug were wrong blits in the greetings part scroller, due
to buggy calculations the B pointer sometimes was out of bounds causing blits
to completely wrong and/or illegal memory locations.
Other than that there were quite some Bplcon0 color bit fixes needed, the
line drawer used to show some pictures had to be fixed as well and there
also were quite a few byte reads from VPOSW as coder used a bclr instruction
to clear the LOF bit.
Now, after quite a bit of work (approx. 8 hours spent on the patch)
everything is finished and everything works fine. I could have easily made
the patch work with real files but as there are a lot of files and the disk
is almost full I decided to use a disk image instead.
The intro part originally could not be quit unless all text had been written,
as I find this quite annoying I have added a left mouse button check, in this
patch the intro can be quit at any time by pressing the left mouse button.
Enough words, enjoy this very nice slideshow from HD!
