Here's another WHDLoad patch for a football game done by yours truly.
Still a very enjoyable game so it deserves a WHDLoad patch!
Not hard to do, first version of the patch was ready after 2 hours.
The code is very clean, however, there is a bug in the game that
only occured on machines with more than 512k RAM (i.e. game used
extended memory), game copied data to a wrong memory location as
it performed some kind of relocation that wasn't required. This
problem has been fixed in the WHDLoad patch of course.
The "ShowConfig" screen crashed on fast machines (like my
A4000/060) because of copying code around and not flushing
the cache before jumping into the copied code. This has
been fixed too.
Speaking of the config screen, please note that the number
of drives displayed does not match your actual configuration,
I had to fake the drive check (otherwise saving games would
not be possible) so it will always display that only one
floppy drive is available. The CPU will also always be displayed
as 68000 as I didn't feel like patching that. :)
If you want to save a game you have to click on the "Df0:" image,
your games will of course be saved to harddisk! It is like this
because otherwise saving games would not work at all (as only
the "Cancel" image would be available).
I may improve that in a later version of this patch but I don't
consider it a big problem.
If you already have a save disk you can create an image of it using
tools like DIC (can be found in the WHDLoad package), rename
the image to "disk.2" and copy it to the installation directory.
If no save disk is found it will be created, this feature
can be disabled with the CUSTOM1=1 tooltype.
Have fun with this game from HD now.
