This install applies to "TV Sports Football" © 1988 Cinemaware.
This install requires WHDLoad and DIC to be in the path.
These programs can be found in the WHDLoad package.
To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert.
The installed game requires 0.5 MB ChipMem and 0.5MB OtherMem (+1.8 MB for preload)
It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey=").
The game requires an installed A500 Kickstart 1.3 image.
The kickstart image must be located in the directory "Devs:Kickstarts" and
must be named "kick34005.A500". The image can be extracted from a A500 with
tools like 'GrabKick' or similar which can be found on aminet.
If the image is of wrong version or altered in any way WHDLoad will quit with
an appropriate message.
Additionally the file "kick34005.A500.RTB" must be installed in the same
directory as the kickstart image. It can be found in the archive
"util/boot/skick346.lha" on aminet.
- Full load from HD
- Protection removed (Herndon HLS track check (x2), library protection,
custom track check)
- Access fault fixed
- Timing fixed
- 3 versions supported (UK version (SPS 407) and 2 US versions)
- Manual included
- Source code included as usual
- NewIcon (created by me)
- Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is 'F10')
This one was requested by quite a few people. Wasn't hard to patch,
after a few hours everything was finished. The protection really
made me laugh, the game loaded a fake "echo" command in the
startup-sequence, this was used to patch OpenLibrary() and OldOpenLibrary()
(to prevent you from simply removing this fake "echo" command) and to
check the protection track with a buggy loader (move.w #2,$dff9c, need
I say more?). The OpenLibrary patch was used to check if the library
name is "Kev.library", if so it renamed it to "dos.library". Quite
possibly one of the lamest protections I've ever seen but at least it
was funny. :)
The main game also had 2 protection track checks, these apparently
were made by Ben Herndon but the binary wasn't encrypted this time,
instead it used overlay hunks.
Enjoy this great classic game from HD now.
Update v1.02, 08-Aug-2016
I have now fixed the timing as the game runs much too fast on anything
else than a plain 68000 Amiga. The timing fix will slow down the game
so it can be played on fast machines too.
Update v1.03, 09-Aug-2016
After some feedback from sheik (thanks!) I have changed the timing
fix, the game speed can now be selected with CUSTOM1, 3 options are
CUSTOM1=0: Timing fix is disabled, game runs as fast as possible and will
be unplayable on fast machines.
CUSTOM1=1: Faster player movement, recommended for 2 player mode.
Note: if playing against the computer, recovering from
fumbles will be harder.
CUSTOM1=2: Very close to the original A500/68000 speed. Recommended for
single player mode.
Thanks to sheik for detailed bug report, testing and feedback.
Greetings to all in Scarab and Scoopex, the WHDLoad team, PMC,
