Summary0006525: Hi, I played this game in the 80s so I'm acquainted with it. There are 2
DescriptionGameVersion: english,pal,1 disk
SlaveVersion: 1.0 from 20.05.2000

Hi,
I played this game in the 80s so I'm acquainted with it. There are 2 (possibly 3) problems with the WHDLoad version In order of seriousness.
1. Saving games doesn't work, though the Readme says it features "Full Load/Save to HD"
To demonstrate the problem boot up the game. When you get to the chevron prompt type "save". You'll be prompted for a filename (I used ram:test) and verification. It then says "Fatal error during load. Please remove your Jinxter disk and reset your machine". Note that it reports a load error when a save has been requested. If you want to try saving further into the game you can use:
WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, SHOW TICKET TO INSPECTOR, WAIT, WAIT, PRESS BUTTON, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, LEAVE BUS, SAVE
2. The original game used to occasionally ask you to type a word from a 'newspaper' called 'The Independent Guardian'. Although the Readme implies this has been removed "Lame-o-Protect removed (Document check)" it appears it may not be the case. To demonstrate, boot to the chevron and type "load [ret]", then give it a non-existent filename e.g. ram:wibble and confirm. It reports "Sorry, there was a problem with the load" and then displays the document check text "Along with Jinxter came a copy of Independent Guardian. We would like you to tell us a word that is in it. ...".
Of course the Independent Guardian is not supplied in the bundle.. A copy can be found on the net and entering the requested word lets you progress. It would be useful, though, if the document check wasn't present (sometimes it has asked for a valid word that it then reports as incorrect) though this could be a problem with the version of the Independent Guardian rather than the program.
3. Jinxter on other platforms (DOS, ST) displays static graphics on the screen. These do not appear on the Amiga WHDLoad version, even if "graphics on" is typed at the chevron prompt. This is a minor problem.. the pictures don't really add anything.
I've tried this program both on real hardware (A1200) and on WinUAE (A1200) with the same result. My WinUAE is set to '68020', my real hardware has a 68030 on an ACA1233n card. I've tried adding tool types PAL, NoAutoVec, NoMMU, NoCache to no avail. WB 3.2.2.1 is installed on both real hardware and WinUAE. The Installer is v47.19.
I hope this report is useful to you and that the program can either be fixed or I'm revealed to be an idiot.
Thank you
Alan Bleasby
